As a major international economic and trade event of the year, the completion of the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPP) negotiations “detonated” public opinion. In the past few days, around the TPP talk about the possible impact on China and other issues, China's official intensive voice, so that the outside world can give a glimpse of Beijing's response to TPP.

"The Agreement is one of the important free trade agreements in the Asia-Pacific region. The Chinese side is open to the system construction that conforms to the rules of the World Trade Organization [microblogging] and contributes to the promotion of economic integration in the Asia-Pacific region." On the second day of the end (6th), the spokesperson of the Ministry of Commerce of China made a speech, reflecting China’s attitude towards the end of the negotiations.

At the same time as the bright attitude, the above-mentioned spokesperson also showed China's hope for TPP - mutual promotion with other free trade arrangements in the region to jointly contribute to trade and investment and economic development in the Asia-Pacific region.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying has a more detailed discussion. When answering a reporter's question on the 8th, she said that the development stage and level of the Asia-Pacific economy are not the same. On the basis of fully considering development differences and respecting the special needs of developing economies, all parties should participate in equal participation, full consultation and openness. On the basis of tolerance, we will work together to promote the construction of the free trade zone in the region, and each should be mutually promoted by trade arrangements.

The impact of the TPP on the Chinese economy is undoubtedly the focus of attention from all walks of life. Ma Jun, chief economist at the People's Bank of China, recently wrote that if China does not join the TPP, it may reduce its GDP growth by nearly 2.2%.

In this regard, China's Minister of Commerce Gao Hucheng said on the 8th that all regional free trade arrangements may have a certain trade and investment transfer effect on non-members. He said that for the impact of the TPP, China will conduct a comprehensive and systematic assessment based on the text of the agreement officially announced by the relevant parties.

Gao Hucheng also stressed that the evolution of the international trade pattern is ultimately determined by the adjustment of the international industrial structure and the international competitiveness of national products. China has always adhered to the basic national policy of opening to the outside world, unswervingly supports global economic integration and the multilateral trading system, encourages the improvement and development of global value chains, and is committed to promoting the prosperity and stability of the world economy.

Specifically, Gao Hucheng pointed out that China is “gradually building a high-level free trade zone network covering the whole world”.

In fact, since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, especially since the Third Plenary Session of the 18th CPC Central Committee, the pace of China's free trade zone construction has significantly accelerated. At present, China has reached 14 free trade agreements with 22 countries and regions including ASEAN, Chile, Switzerland, New Zealand, South Korea and Australia, and is also working with relevant countries to promote the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (RCEP). Japan-Korea Free Trade Zone, China and ASEAN's free trade zone upgrades and other negotiations.

At the same time, China also clearly stated the possibility of joining the TPP. Yi Gang, deputy governor of the People's Bank of China, said recently that China is open to TPP and is ready to cooperate with 12 countries and consider TPP.

This statement is not unexpected. It can be seen from the official public statements in recent years that China has never taken a negative attitude toward the possibility of joining the TPP. Gao Hucheng also revealed that the Chinese and TPP main members have maintained smooth communication on their own free trade negotiations. (Finish)
